Most Popular Casting Process: 1. Die
Cast for
very high out put casting production, with exact consistency, long duration runs;
Die casting is an efficient, economical
process offering a broader range of shapes and components than any other
manufacturing technique. Parts have long service life and may be designed to
complement the visual appeal of the surrounding part. Designers can gain a
number of advantages and benefits by specifying die cast parts.
2. Flask-Less Molding is like automated sand casting, for high volume, long run casting projects; this process delivers the true economies of automatically mass produced sand castings, namely greater productivity, lower cost and higher quality castings
3. Green Sand Casting like sand casting, most economical, most used casting process; the alloys used most in Green Sand / Sand Castings, are aluminum, brass/bronze, and iron / steel / ferrous products. The term "green" denotes the presence of moisture in the molding sand, and indicates that the mold is not baked or dried.
4. Sand Casting - like Green Sand Casting / most economical, most used casting process
5. Investment Casting for almost as cast, great consistency, high volume, great detail, applications; intricate shapes can be made with high accuracy. In addition, metals that are hard to machine or fabricate are good candidates for this process.
6. Permanent Molding - instead of sand, this process uses a reusable metal pattern; so in medium to high volume jobs this will equal lower piece part production cost; products have better tensile strength and elongation than sand castings; Mass productions can be done is a single production run, which reduces the manufacturing cost
7. Powdered Metal - Powder metal parts are not shape sensitive; near net shape production uses more than 97% of the starting raw material; Powder metal is an energy and material saving process; Intricate shapes are less expensively produced by powder metallurgy compared to machining from stock or billet
8. V-Process Casting - is known for the high dimensional tolerances and good surface finish of the castings. Due to multiplicity of operations it is suitable for low to medium production volumes, depending on the amount of conveyor-ized equipment within the foundry.Because the sand never touches the pattern itself, there is almost no pattern wear. Minimal or zero draft allowance can be used on vertical surfaces.
************************************
How to start a Casting Process for my project? 1. Know how many parts you are going to require, by month, year, or project. 2. Know when you will need these parts at your business. 3. Know about how much $$ has been budgeted for each part. 4. Understand the parts you want made; examine all the drawings and prints.5. Call us to help you place an order. *********************** Example of Understanding you Casting Project: 1. Be familiar with, is less machine work required, and if so, that requirement points to an "As Cast Part" like is made with Investment Casting Process. 2. If machine work, and As Cast, is not as important of a requirement, then is the more cost sensitive, Sand Casting Process the wisest choice? Similar ideas and options are explained in the All Processes Section, here is a Link >>>> All Processes .
